Project presented by Groupe d’Appui et de Solidarité

Improve the living conditions of women affected by the HIV

Education and Social action

Implemented in Benin for more than 10 years, the NGO Groupe d’Appui et de Solidarité (GAS), supported by its local partner Racines, proposes a global support to 65 people - among which 55 women – living with HIV / AIDS. Thanks to a medical, social and psychological care, the women are progressively reintegrated into the community.

Every woman is also trained and accompanied in the development of an income-generating activity which allows her to open to the outside world while strengthening her feeling of legitimacy and her autonomy. To durably change the perception of seropositivity, GAS began a networking of the main local actors fighting against the HIV / AIDS (the hospital, the city hall of Savalou, the local association of the people living with HIV) who were all trained in gender approach, allowing a more adapted medical care.

The action will be pursued and adapted to guarantee its sustainability: adaptation of the modalities of support and follow-up of the beneficiaries.
