Project presented by
Envol Vert
Supporting women\s empowerment through environmental conservation and the revitalization of a traditional wheat industry in the Socota region (Colombia).
Women's actions in favor of the environment
The Socota region of Colombia is an agricultural territory, historically organized around wheat and water mills. Armed conflict, followed by the rise of mining, has caused numerous social and environmental problems, marginalizing women in economic activities. At the same time, the region\s wheat production has fallen drastically as a result of free-trade agreements with the United States, which make imports cheaper than local cultivation.
However, thanks to the efforts of Agrosolidaria, interest in local agriculture is reviving. With the support of Envol Vert, this local association has launched a program aimed at improving farming practices, particularly wheat and honey, and optimizing the marketing of these peasant products. Women taking part in the project are trained in the processes involved in preserving ecosystems and water resources, enabling them to play a greater role in the economic life of their households. The project also includes training in agroecological practices and reforestation.
Use of the prize :
The public prize will be used to develop the actions carried out in Socota, in order to empower the participating women, and to consolidate the wheat and honey sectors, for the well-being of the community.
